Jan 22, 2026
The Foundation is pleased to announce that one of our grant recipients from the American Region, Professor KuoRay Mao, associate professor of sociology at Colorado State University, has been awarded the 2025 Rosa del Olmo Prize for a co-authored article with Dr. Zhong Zhao, “Authoritarian Environmentalism and Epistemological Violence: A Southern Green Criminology Analysis of the 2014 Lanzhou Water Crisis and the Belt and Road Initiative Expansion into the Global Water Sector” (International Journal for Crime, Justice and Social Democracy, Vol. 12 No. 4, December 2023, pp. 27-38). The prize recognizes research articles that contribute to innovative thinking in the development of criminology beyond Western scripts. It is named in honor of Rosa del Olmo (1937–2000), a pioneering Venezuelan criminologist known for her work in critical, feminist, and decolonial criminology. Professor Mao’s project was supported by the Foundation’s Scholar Grant. The Foundation is deeply proud of Professor Mao’s outstanding accomplishments and the prestigious honor they have received.
