Historical Documents of Taiwan’s Plains Aborigines

Project Director:Chia Yu Hu; Institution: National Taiwan University

This grant supported the publication of 362 historical documents about Taiwan’s Plains Aborigines from the collection at National Taiwan University’s Department of Anthropology. Results included three volumes of texts from Taokas Sinkang Village (道卡斯新港社文書), Ketagalan (凱達格蘭文書), and Kavalan and Siraya (噶瑪蘭西拉雅文書), including real estate deeds, land deeds, loan receipts, imperial edits and proclamations, and tax records. These documents constitute an invaluable source base for scholars wishing to research Taiwan’s Plains Aborigine history and ethnic relations.
